Revolutionary Changes in Braces

Dr. Scanlan and our office uses 3-D imaging technology through the SureSmile® treatment. SureSmile technology is revolutionizing the orthodontic industry because it orchestrates clearer patient diagnosis, allows doctors to specifically tailor appliances to a patient's individual needs, and it gives the patient the ability to see exactly what their mouth will look like post-treatment. The treatment is estimated to be almost 40% faster than conventional braces. This allows for overall fewer office visits, less discomfort, and higher quality results.

Our team at TS Orthodontics recently came across a very interesting New York Times article, which discusses the benefits of 3-D imaging technology. Check it out to learn more. Dr. Scanlan, trained at the world renowned Mayo Clinic is the first to introduce this and other technologies to western North Carolina and Asheville.

Once you talk to someone who has gone through the SureSmile experience or experience it for your self, you will know what the standard of care is for orthodontics. At TS Orthodontics in Asheville, NC you will be provided that standard of care.

Summer Sports Are Here, Keep those Braced Teeth Safe and in the Clear

Keeping Asheville Braces Safe
With Summer in full swing it is easy to forget that school sports are right around the corner, some as early as August 1st.

  • We want to provide the most pertinent and relavent information regarding the protection of teeth from trauma.
  • Mouth guards are a MUST with sports, plain and simple. It does not matter if you have braces or not.
  • Contrary to common belief, football is NOT the source of most dental injuries. While hockey runs a close second, the highest incidence of trauma to teeth from adolescent sporting activities is basketball.
  • Now Moms, don't bubble wrap your tiny basketball players, just get them a mouth guard!
  • We provide mouth guards for all our patients that are wearing braces. The mouth guards that are worn over braces are a little different than what you might be used to.
  • Boil and bite is not right! The mouth guard should not form fit around the brackets

The Importance of Wearing Your Retainers

Congratulations on getting your braces off!

Unfortunately the “my teeth hurt a lot so I can only eat ice cream” excuse won’t work anymore, but now you’ve got that movie star smile you’ve always wanted!

Now it’s time to talk about retainers.
After your braces are removed, your teeth can begin to shift if they are not stabilized properly. Stabilization is what your retainers are all about! If you forget or refuse to wear you retainers, your teeth may end up shifting back to their previous position. Wearing your retainers around the clock is the very best way to insure that your teeth do not move back to the way they were before braces.

Here are a few things to remember when it comes to retainers…

-Brush your teeth after meals before putting your retainers back in.
-Brush your retainer every time you brush your teeth.
-Disinfect your retainer by soaking it in mouth wash.
-Keep your retainers in your retainer case when you are not wearing them.
-Never wrap your retainer in a napkin or paper towel because you might accidentally throw it away.
-Keep retainers out of reach of pets

Enjoy your smile and remember to wear your retainers!
